Pro Sound Meter

A sound level meter for iPhone that is honest about what it does not know.

It measures. It does not pretend to be certified. Every reading is labelled with the confidence behind it, and the app tells you when it should not be trusted — a covered microphone, a Bluetooth headset, an input it has never been measured against. Where other meters print a confident number, this one prints the number and the caveat.

What it does

Live level

dBA, dBC or dBZ, Fast or Slow, with min, energy average and max — the professional controls, not a single mystery number.

Standard metrics

LAeq, LAFmax, LCpeak, computed the way the standard defines them, and never silently rebased when you change the display.

Spectrum

FFT with a draggable cursor, plus octave and third-octave bands and peak hold, for finding what is actually making the noise.

Sessions

Record, and the trace is written to disk as it goes — a session survives a crash instead of vanishing with it.

Reports

PDF, CSV and a shareable image card, each carrying the same honesty line the app shows you.

All of it, free

No professional metric is behind a paywall. Premium removes advertising and all data collection — nothing else.

Privacy

Your sound never leaves your iPhone. Audio and measurements are processed on the device, stored on the device, and never uploaded — on either tier. The free version shows ads, and the ad network receives the limited technical data described in the privacy policy. Premium never starts the advertising code at all.

Accuracy, stated plainly

Pro Sound Meter is a useful estimate, not a certified instrument. It is not a Type 1 or Type 2 sound level meter. Readings vary with the device, its case and the microphone in use. Use certified equipment where a regulation or legal standard requires it.
